Kort CV
Marieke is responsible for the educational learning line within the Knowledge Center. She also works as an associate professor at the Department of Developmental and Educational Psychology of the Institute of Psychology at Leiden University. Her research focuses on understanding neurobiological mechanisms that play a role in the onset and maintenance of mental problems during adolescence. To better understand this major issue, she uses a variety of different methods and techniques, including brain scans (MRI) and hormones (puberty hormones such as estradiol and testosterone).
One of the research questions she wants to answer in the coming period is why anxiety problems during adolescence are more common in girls than in boys. In this research, she focuses specifically on the role of puberty hormones and how anxiety is learned and extinguished.
