A pilot project exploring whether we can implement Learn to Dare in the school context.
Pilotproject
The “Learn to Dare!” program (Simon & Bögels, 2014) is an evidence-based group training program for children between the ages of 8 and 12 with light to mild anxiety symptoms that has recently been expanded for adolescents (up to age 18). The program consists of 8 meetings of 1.5 hours, with some homework each week. During the training, children and adolescents practice with situations they find scary (exposure), learn to become more confident and think more positively. In addition, the children in the group do relaxation and social skills exercises.
Through this pilot project, in cooperation with the Youth Teams Leidse Regio and the Ambulatory Educational Service, the “Learn to Dare!” program is being offered at two elementary school and two secondary schools. Anxiety can often be detected early in an educational setting. By implementing the training in schools, anxiety symptoms in children and adolescents can be identified and remedied earlier.
Who is this training for?
The “Learn to Dare!” program is designed specifically for children and adolescents between the ages of 8 and 18 who feel or act anxious, avoid situations they are afraid of, are afraid of doing things wrong, appear skittish or stressed, are negative about themselves, are very shy and worry easily.
To participate, you must be a student at one of the schools participating in this pilot.
